Friends Film Fest
Community
Over
Competition.
FFF is about breaking down barriers, and making space, for all filmmakers to distribute their work, with a focus on "community over competition".
“Created in 2019, co-founders and independent filmmakers, A Wörtz and Erin Miller were tired of the anti-climactic approach of internet distribution for filmmaking. They wondered if there was a way for all their fellow filmmaker friends to sit on a couch, have a beer and see everyone’s work on the big screen, in its true glory.”

At its core, FFF is just watching movies by friends, with friends on couches.
Branding.
The identity for FFF needed to be both rebellious and approachable. True black and white were the primary colors as a representation of the two contrasting ideas. Softened with a typeface with rounded strokes and easy curves in the capital “F”. The simple visual element of the hand illustration gives depth to the whole identity.

The Hand.
Not only does the shape of the hand signify “good job”, but it is also the shape of the letter F in American Sign Language. The hand element adds that human touch that was necessary to including into this human-forward brand.
Education.
The second FFF was in conjunction with Austin Design Week. To educate those outside of the film industry, I created an exhibit about production design, AKA the intersection between film and design.
The exhibit was called Making A Scene.
Two elements made up the exhibit. First large white posters giving very core explanation for how production design works. Secondly, smaller colorful pieces that showed famous frames from movies to give examples of production design.

Friend’s Choice Award.
Strategically eliminating a panel of judges and the notion of “best in show” because you don’t have to be making films to have a say in what is good or not. So we turned to our friends to help us decide who gets the coveted Friend’s Choice Award.
(3-D printed the trophy cause we’re fun like that.)
People.
I created this to give my friends a platform to share their art.
And I tried to do it in the most thoughtful way I could.
That’s it.
